Friendly Gone Wild - Azkals vs Indonesia Highlights (And Low-blows)

So Tuesday's FIFA friendly between the Philippine Azkals and Timnas Indonesia turned out to be, oh, not so friendly after all. The first half was pretty much uneventful. Great efforts though by our boys, especially Jason Sabio for his slick throw-ins and Angel Guirado's beautiful headers. By the end of it, the score was still 0-0; players on both teams had a decent workout and nothing more. By the second half, things definitely got more interesting. Much more interesting.

The ever huggable Coach Weiss (wearing his dashing mini-bib at the request of the referee lol) decided to heat things up with a more offensive play, bringing in bash brothers James and Phil Younghusband, among others, for "the kill." The Indonesians made the first goal, passed the skillful hands of Fulham's very own Neil Etheridge. But James quickly did an offset a minute later. The determined visitors let one between Etheridge's legs, leading the scoreboard 2-1. Then Phil evens out the score just a few minutes shy of the final whistle blow. But the highlight of the match? All those red cards flying about, for sure.

Indonesia's star import Irfan Bacchdim gets all in-your-face with Azkals vice-captain Chieffy Caligdong and a couple of others nearby, meriting both of them and another Azkal Manny Ott, some bloody reds. Which only means they can't play in the next friendly against Guam at Panaad. And in between all that action? Some racist chants by Indonesian supporters from the bleachers, taunting mixed-heritage players of the Azkals. Just how low could they go?? Good thing our own Kaholeros and Filipino supporters answered back with "No To Racism" cheers and even clapped for the Indonesian team as they exited the stadium. That'll teach 'em.
