On Guns, Graduates, And Whole Grains

LunaNina says ... and I think ... ?

  1. Nutritious :: Fruits, vegetables, green tea, and whole grains. Yeah, I should eat more of those. We all do. Latest addition to my diet is flaxseed. I mix it with salads, soups, cereal, and oatmeal. It doesn't taste like anything except it makes the texture of your food a little grainier. It's all good though.
  2. Graduate :: Class of '01. Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts. Yep, that's me.
  3. Tonight! :: ...is DVD/booze/RockBand night. Yay!
  4. Located :: GPS. I don't have it, and I don't think I'll ever find the need for it. I've survived the streets of the world by asking for actual people for directions. I think it's still the best way to find places you've never been.
  5. Weapon :: I'm not a big fan of guns and knives. I do like paint ball, but if people can go to war with paint as their ammo, I think the world would be a better (and funner!) place.
  6. Jumper :: I just saw the Hayden Christensen/Samuel L. Jackson movie a couple of days ago on video. The effects and the scenery was awesome, but I wasn't really happy with the storyline.
  7. Collectibles :: I've collected a few things all through out my life. I was heavily into stamps when I was in the 7th grade. In college I started buying a lot of candles. Then there's my little literary collection; books I've read [and plan to read] scattered all over my room. And my CDs, of course. My last count was more or less 380. I kinda slowed down on the CD shopping the last couple of years though (thanks to online file sharing). Now, I'm not deliberately collecting anything in particular, but the number of flip flops I have just keep growing.
  8. Dennis :: ...the menace. I know like 5 guys named Dennis. They're all very colorful characters alright.
  9. Hostile :: Uninvited. Always RSVP; never crash.
  10. Vivid :: ...memories. I only have a handful, because my long-term memory is worth crap, but what I do remember rocks.

I've Reached Melting Point

It gets up to about 35°C during the day over here and down to a measly 28°C at night. Weather experts say we're expecting a [series of?!?] heat wave in the coming days/weeks. I mean, how could it possibly get any hotter than it is now? Oh, right. Forecasts mention reaching up to 39°C...or worse. OMG. I think my legs are detaching themselves from my body and actually melting before my eyes.

To get my mind off the heat, or at least stop worrying about melting from the feet up, I've decided to do a few things to improve the situation. Here's what I've done so far...

5. Got reacquainted with the A/C repair guy. His name is Rusty and he's been our A/C go-to guy for a couple of years now. His shop is like a 3-minute drive from my house, which is great. For the most part of the year, he and I really don't talk or see each other. But as soon as March/April kicks in, I've got him on speed dial. Today was just one of those Rusty-the-A/C-guy kick-offs. He and his associates were at my house in a flash as soon as I made the call. Had my gramps' (bless his soul) A/C checked and it's super cool now. My brother had his A/C fixed, too, but his won't be done until Monday (ha!). My mom's pretty happy because she's got like a 2.5 horsepower Condura all to herself and it's working fine. Thank God for A/C.

4. Stocked up on ice. I don't make the ice myself, but let's just say I've made sure the fridge never runs out of it (it better not or else I'll die!).

3. Multiple cold showers. At least three times a day since Thursday. Sure, as soon as I step out of the shower I start sweating again, but at least I smell nice.

2. Made arrangements for the ice cream guy to drive by the house every afternoon on the weekends and deliver the good stuff. I don't even care about the flavor anymore (that's not entirely true). As long as I have a cone/cup/drumstick/pint in my hand by 4 in the afternoon, I'm a happy albeit melting camper.

1. Moonbathe. Nightswimming in this weather is the bomb. That's my goofy brother, by the way, and that's me behind him about to take a splash. I think the heat is making us a little cuckoo, too.

Improv Everywhere: They Cause Scenes

New York has it all -- Ms. Liberty, Broadway, Sex and the City, the Yankees, The Donald. It also spawned a highly creative group of street thespians that aim to wow and please. Let me stop you right there; I'm not talking about hookers, you perv.

Improv Everywhere is Charlie Todd's brainchild. His objective? Bring chaos AND joy to New York City...and beyond. Here's a little taste of their witty artistry. It may as well be one of the best and biggest pranks ever pulled. The applause at the end says it all. Check out "Frozen Grand Central." Eerie? Awesome? You decide.

"Food Court Musical" is the latest addition to their repertoire. Someone left a comment for this video and said that if life was a musical, there'd be absolutely no need for weed. And I agree. All food courts should have this kind of entertainment, don't you think? Moral of the story: burst into song whenever, wherever.

With ongoing global roundup efforts, I'm pretty sure they'll be up to something in a city near you really soon.

10 On Tuesday: Things To Do Before I Say "I Do"

The date is set. I have my dress, invites have been sent out, food's taken care of, the church is booked, still waiting on the band to confirm but I think it's in the bag, too. Now all I need is a groom. Know where I could find one? Oh, before I forget -- Happy April Fool's, all!

Just so we're clear, I'm not getting hitched anytime soon (breathe, Obie, breathe), and I am in no hurry to (contrary to popular belief). This was last week's topic, and since I missed out on it, I thought today would be the perfect time to do a post on the 10 things I'd like to do before I get married. Aren't Tuesdays fun?

1. Travel more. 'Round Ireland with a fridge, cruise along the coast of Everwhere, drive cross crountry -- yes, I am aware it will require time AND money to do all these things. Clearly, I won't be getting married tomorrow.

2. Master the art of being a domestic goddess. Learn how to bake, press clothes, do the laundry, work the vacuum cleaner (and other home appliances I've never used before in my life). Also, learn to do more delicious recipes and continue working on that cookbook I have.

3. Lose as much weight as I can. Who wouldn't want to look hot in white?!

4. Save up for the "storms" ahead. I know there will be many. You can never be too prepared.

5. Throw out ex-boyfriend memorabilia. Yes, even the expensive ones. OK, fine, pawn the expensive ones.

6. Go out with the girls every chance I get. Party, drink, get a tattoo, wear ridiculously short skirts, go home at dawn, gossip, take road trips, have sleepovers, indulge in massages, go shopping, RSVP, get my nails/hair did.

7. Flirt with a random guy for the very last time. Physical contact NOT required.

8. Sit down with my folks and have a heart-to-heart. Just take in all their advice with a grain of salt. Remember what they did right and learn from their mistakes.

9. Sit down with the future Mr. Fritz and tell him exactly what's going on in my mind (and vice versa). Agree, disagree, and compromise. In my country, there's no such thing as divorce. So, we have to be 200% sure.

10. Hire a great [yet reasonably priced] wedding planner and get as many of my girlfriends involved in it as possible. When that day comes, all I want to do is just get dressed, look fabulous, and be deliriously happy...hopefully for the rest of my married life, too.

Cheers!

Hey, Mr. Nothing

Push And Pull
by Nikka Costa

Mr. Nothing's got a lot
He's got a lot to say
He's good at being what he's not
Gives nothing away

Another day goes on by
And he never speaks his heart
He takes his chance with what he's got
It's too late now to stop

You push and you pull and struggle with the knot
It's tying you up while you're fadin'
You give and you take and take what you got
Round and round 'till it breaks and
You push and you pull and struggle with the knot
It's tying you up while you're fadin' into your lie

Mr. Nothing is late
He's running out of time
He questions whether chance or fate will ever show a sign
Looks to the sky above
For a glimpse of what it means
And never never never make
Make no sense to him

You push and you pull and struggle with the knot
It's tying you up while you're fadin'
You give and you take and take what you got
Round and round 'till it breaks and
You push and you pull and struggle with the knot
It's tying you up while you're fadin' into your lie

You push and you pull it

  2. Gills :: Umm, fish have them.

  5. Checkered :: ...flag. End of the race. Finito.
  6. Fill in :: ...the blanks. Kinda like this one.
  7. Taunting :: Bullying.
  8. Diner :: 50's cafe. Good food. Great milkshakes. Even greater desserts.
  9. Pizza :: All the major food groups rolled out into a wonderfully loaded crust of bliss. Yumm.
  10. Best friend :: Accepting applicants. Send your résumés or CVs to lonewolf@bff.com -- stalkers, voyeurs, and prissy drivers with single-white-female tendencies need not apply.

Mix Tape: Anything, Anything

Title: Anything Anything
Artist: Dramarama
Album: Cinema Verite (1985)
Dedication: n/a

Okay, what is it tonight?
Please, just tell me what the hell is wrong
Do you wanna eat?
Do you wanna sleep?
Do you wanna drown?
Just settle down, settle down, settle down!

I'll give you candy, give you diamonds, give you pills
give you anything you want--
hundred dollar bills
I'll even let you watch the shows you wanna see
just marry me marry me marry me!

I'm so sick of you tonight
You never stay awake when I get home
Is something wrong with me?
something wrong with you?
I really wish I knew wish I knew wish I knew!

When I was young, I learned a game
When love and happiness were the same
Now I'm older and I don't play--
I found out the hardest way.
I got wasted she got mad
Called me names and she called her dad
He got crazy and I did too
Wonderin' what I did to you

I'll give you candy, give you diamonds, give you pills
Give you anything you want --
hundred dollar bills
I even let you hear the songs I want to sing,
I'll give you anything, anything, anything...

Chocolate Hills Of Bohol

1,268 perfect hills, 500 more with tree trunks in surrounding areas, nominated for a spot in the 7 Natural Wonders of the World, 214 steps up to the viewing deck, and 3 very compelling legends. That's at least 1,992 reasons why you should come down to Carmen City in Bohol to witness nature at its best -- the Chocolate Hills.

Black Saturday: Working Holiday

I thought I could be away from the computer during this trip, but it turns out I have to work anyway. So, I guess you guys aren't going to miss me after all.

After an hour delay, we got to the airport in Tagbilaran City at 8:30AM. I haven't slept and I still have to do some work before I crash. High tide is at noon, so I have a few hours to get a little work done before I take a dip. Stupid me, I forgot to bring the jack for my cellphone so I can't upload any pictures from it just yet. But here's a little preview of the majesty that is Bohol (sea side, at least).

Good Friday

It's the Holy Week and the city is on stealth mode for the next couple of days or so. To celebrate the Easter weekend, I am flying out to Bohol first thing tomorrow morning and won't be back until Tuesday; gonna take it easy before normalcy kicks in again. In the meantime, here's a little treat brought to us by the talented inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center. I wish everyone a solemn, spiritually enriching week. I'll be seein' you all in a few...

InFOURmation Overload: Reloaded

First off, I just want to thank those of you who sent me emails and links to your posts about your fours. You guys have no idea how touched and grateful I am for your effort and willingness to share. Some of you were even complete strangers before I read your lists. So again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you -- for opening up and allowing me to know you all just a little bit more.

A bunch of you also spruced up the list a little, which I thought was awesome. James (my most avid reader, or so he claims lol), Katrina T. of Paranaque (who I've never met, but went ahead and introduced herself to me anyway), Carol Ann (who's a first-time expecting mom...I am so THRILLED for you), Wanwan (who just did her own list after we got back from our road trip over the weekend -- you are, indeed, my ambassador of kWAN), and to everyone else who participated, big hugs to you all.

After reading your lists, I thought I'd add a few more bits of info on mine. At first, I did it knowing that no one would really take any real interest in the randomness of my existence. I am so glad that you guys proved me wrong. So here are my fours: reloaded.

Four movies that I could intensely relate to
1. Elizabethtown (Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst)
2. If Only (Jennifer Love Hewitt, Paul Nicholls, Tom Wilkinson)
3. Lost In Translation (Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray)
4. P.S. I Love You (Hilary Swank, Gerard Butler, Lisa Kudrow)

Four books that changed me forever
1. She's Come Undone (Wally Lamb)
2. The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho)
3. **A Blessing In Disguise: 39 Life Lessons From Today's Greatest Teachers (Andrea Joy Cohen)
4. **The Joy Of Doing Things Badly: A Girl's Guide To Love, Life, And Foolish Bravery (Veronica Chambers)
Note: Those in ** are for perpetual reading.

Four best feelings in the world
1. basking in real love
2. being safe
3. being trusted, acknowledged, accepted
4. finishing something and being great at it

Four things I wish I was holding right now
1. my father's hand
2. a 28-inch waist (supposedly mine)
3. the winning lottery ticket
4. the universal cure for cancer, aids, and other dehabilitating diseases

Four things I love
1. music
2. atmosphere
3. movies
4. food

Four people I wish to meet
1. Curt Blasko
2. Ethan Hawke
3. The Doctor
4. my future kid/s

Four things I wish to do before I die
1. travel
2. write more songs
3. affect & inspire people
4. make peace with everyone

Four people who really make me laugh

1. Wanwan
2. The Segovias (this was a tough call, so I went for the collective)
3. The Sorianos (my family's pretty funny, I gotta say)
4. Daniel

Four people who inspire me the most
1. Obie
2. my mom
3. people who've overcome sickness and adversities
4. people who have less than I do, but still feel happy to be alive

This has really been very therapeutic. To reiterate what I said on Wanwan's blog, it's an eye opener to friends and family members who think they know you completely, but hardly do; it's also a way of getting reacquainted with yourself. Everyone should try and do this; even just writing them on a piece of paper. Just be deliciously aware of your answers and let the good times roll.

On Ghosts, Tardiness, And Chatty Truth Monsters

I was out of town the last 4 days, so I wasn't able to post anything on here. But I'm back now, from a super long weekend of relaxation, recreation, and intoxication (check, check, and double check). I had a little trouble sleeping the first night, but it paid off as I watched the sunrise between my toes while I was still in bed (see the picture?). Obviously, I was bored and restless for a good few hours before the sun actually came out.

Here's this week's Unconscious Mutterings brought to you by the letters R & R.

LunaNina says ... and I think ... ?

  1. Paranormal :: I ain't afraid of no ghosts. OK, that's a lie. But I don't think I've ever actually seen one. Thank God.
  2. Alarm :: I don't have a conventional alarm. I don't rely on the radio or TV for it either. I've used my cellphone alarm since it came in existence. Sometimes, I'd even wake up just right before the alarm goes off. It's a sickness/talent -- whichever way you see it. Just like Pizza Hut delivery, I hate late.
  3. Operative :: Hmm. Well, my mom had an eye operatION on Friday.
  4. Changing :: The world is. Ever changing.
  5. Framed :: Who Framed Roger Rabbit? It's been a while since I last saw that movie.
  6. Beer :: The last time I had beer I turned into a chatty truth monster.
  7. Referral :: Something I'll need for job-hunting.
  8. Unmasked :: Superheroes without their disguises on. People who come out with the truth.
  9. Movie star :: Hottest one now who I think would make the best leading man in a movie starring me??? Chris Evans and Channing Tatum -- this one's a toss up. (my friend says she's got dibs on Channing. Too bad this ain't her unconscious mutterings lol)
  10. Handbook :: Maryknoll/Miriam College Handbook. I always bought one at the beginning of every school year since the first grade up until senior year in college. But I've never really read them. Ever.

  7. Anticipating :: The unknown.
  8. Slim :: An adjective no one will ever use to describe me. lol
  9. Navel :: Piercing. And no, I don't have one.

10 On Tuesday: Favorite Drinks

OK, in no particular order (only because I can't really favor caffeine over alcohol and vice versa), my ten favorite drinks are:

1. Diet Coke. Over here it's called Coke Light. Even with the new Coke Zero out in the market now, I still prefer Coke Light. I guess I was never really after which drink had the less calories or the least amount of sugar. Although I should be concerned, since diabetes kind of runs in the family. But I'm all for the tasty and the bubbly, baby. Regular coke's too sweet; Coke Light is just right.

2. Iced Chocolate with a shot of Valencia from Starbucks.

3. **This one's a tie between strawberry banana shakes (both commercial and homemade) and** Strawberries & Cream Frappuccino, also from Starbucks.

4. Bailey's on the rocks with at least 2 cherries. Gotta have them cherries.

5. Ultimate Mocha Ice Blended from The Coffee Bean.

6. Beer. From local varieties of San Miguel to imported ones like Singha, Bud, and Corona.

7. Snapple Pink Lemonade. I used to be so addicted to this stuff.

8. Every single thing on the Boone's Farm family of wines. I especially like the strawberry variations. It's cheap and it tastes mighty fine. I guess I was never pegged as a champagne/fancy wine kind of girl.

9. The Big Gulp -- 32 ounces of tangy bliss.

10. Jack and Coke Light. Ahh, Jack, old buddy, old pal.

TMI Tuesday: The Long And The Short Of Things

1. Under what conditions would you kiss a stranger? I'd like to say NEVER IN A BILLION YEARS. But I think I just might if A) my life or someone else's was actually in danger and me kissing a stranger was the only way to stop it, and B) if I was blindfolded playing some harmless game with friends and someone decides to pounce on me -- sure, why not.

2. Who was the last person you sent a text message to? My friend Mikey. Just now actually. We were talking about RockBand and our first ever practice session.

3. When was the last time you deliberately surprised someone? Honestly, I don't remember any big surprises I cooked up for anyone lately. Small ones, sure, like surprise phone calls, surprise visits, a surprise in the mail -- that kinda stuff.

4. How often do you walk somewhere (hopefully, other than the mailbox)? Lately? Not a lot. Other than walking around the supermarket or the mall, I haven't done a lot of walking, no. I've been meaning to though. 10,000 steps a day, was it? Yeah, my pedometer has been on stealth mode for too long. All that's going to change, that's for sure.

5. What were the longest and shortest durations of your romantic relationships? Shortest was a nanosecond. Longest is 3 years (consecutively).

Bonus: What is missing from your life? A fat bank account, an extremely rewarding and fulfilling job, U.S. and Canadian visas, my dad.

If You Were A Kiss, I Know I'd Be A Hug

All I Want Is You
by Barry Louis Polisar

If I was a flower growing wild and free
All I'd want is you to be my sweet honey bee.
And if I was a tree growing tall and greeen
All I'd want is you to shade me and be my leaves.
All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side.
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.

If you were a river in the mountains tall,
The rumble of your water would be my call.
If you were the winter, I know I'd be the snow
Just as long as you were with me, let the cold winds blow.
All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.

If you were a wink, I'd be a nod
If you were a seed, well I'd be a pod.
If you were the floor, I'd wanna be the rug
And if you were a kiss, I know I'd be a hug.
All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.

If you were the wood, I'd be the fire.
If you were the love, I'd be the desire.
If you were a castle, I'd be your moat,
And if you were an ocean, I'd learn to float.
All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.

  5. Who am I? :: Fritz I Am.

  10. Resource :: Human and natural -- coexisting and just as important as the other.

Manila Ink: My Leap Year Moment

In honor of the leap year (and my birthday three days ago), I decided to go through with the tattoo thing. Yes, I took the leap and got me-self inked. With absolutely no disrespect to my Pops (if you find out about this -- I AM SORRY! You realize that I'm 28 now, right?). Check it out...

Bring on the pain.

Stings like a motherf...

Sweet and Sore.

What it means? Well, for me, it symbolizes balance -- something I've always struggled with. It's not just a flame; if you look closely, they're all 4 elements: water (the blue part), earth (green and red), fire (orange/yellow), and air (white). I've been ruled by my water sign for as long as I could remember, and this mark on my body will definitely remind me each time I see it that there are so many ways to be. I can't be self-limiting anymore. Also, it symbolizes direction -- north, south, east, and west. That I have to allow myself to discover other avenues to happiness and contentment. Finally, it symbolizes the essentials for survival -- freedom, sustenance, passion, and faith (also in that order). I've thought about it long and hard, as you can see LOL. Anything to justify a permanent tattoo, eh? No regrets. Zero.

AI Update: Imagine That

Yesterday on AI the boys got another chance to prove they have what it takes to be the next 'Idol. Jason Castro (my friend Gsel and I are just crazy about him) didn't really give the performance of his life on 70's night, so I was solely rooting for David Archuleta on this round (later today it's going to be the girls though -- Filipina Pride and all, I'm going for Ramiele Malubay. Make us proud, kapatid!!!).

Low and behold. He set Randy on FIRE, moved Paula to tears (and this early in the game?! Whaaat?!), and probably thawed Simon's heart a little. This Archuleta kid IS the one to beat. Simon's definitely right on the money.

Hey Shorty, It's Your Birthday!

compleanoz feliz

Turned the big 2-8 today. Yup, 28 year's old old. Yeowza!

Just want to say thank you to all the people who made the day even more special. To my family, friends old and new -- I appreciate the presents, the well-wishes, the cards, the heartwarming text messages, the phone calls from all across the globe. Here's to next year's, yeah?

The night is young, so I'm heading out to do some more serious partying. Of course, there's still Friday's tattoo shop extravaganza, really excited about that, and Saturday's Pizza & Beer night at Friuli with some buddies (big thanks to Edsel and EJ for accommodating me at such short notice).

Kampai !!!

Talk About A Revolution

Today the Philippines celebrates the 22nd anniversary of the People Power Revolution.

Peaceful street demonstrations and nonviolent protests lead by civilians, clergymen, nuns, and opposing politicians stopped tanks in their tracks, offered rosaries and flowers and food to the military, and ultimately rendered potentially explosive arms to rest -- putting an end to the tyrannous reign of Ferdinand Marcos and his blasted cronies.

This is a tribute to the men and women who are incessantly standing up for their rights, fighting for peace, justice, freedom, and TRUTH.

Like A Virgin: Zepped For The Very First Time

This was the very first Led Zeppelin song I learned and played and performed and loved. I remember I was in this studio near our school, jamming with my band, and our lead guitarist told me I had to listen to this song and learn it. I was in my high school uniform, slumped on the floor, unladylike no doubt, with ginormous earphones, and I was rocking it out with Led Zeppelin in my head. At that point, I didn't even know what they LOOKED like! Ah, to be young and oblivious of the world again.

This one goes out to Blush (you all know who you are) and then some.

My Top 5: Dream Jobs

I've ping-ponged a lot with the kind of work I've been doing. Jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none, to put it ever so accurately. But I see it as a good thing, I suppose; willing to try anything, coming home from work with a big smile on my face for putting in grade A effort, and even excelling at certain skill sets that I never even realized I had. Customer Service and Sales, for instance, were fields that I did pretty well in. I did that for three solid years. Right out of college. On the NIGHT shift for the most part. But I learned I just wasn't really for the whole big corporation, laminated-title-on-desk kind of job.

Interacting with the people I worked with was crucial. I seemed to get along with everybody. Quite well, in fact, that I may have brought home the "most popular" or "miss congeniality" awards at almost every job I had. The tricky part was ALWAYS management. Sure, they liked me, and I even liked some of the people I worked FOR, but hey, "like" doesn't quite cut it.

Bottomline is, it was never compartmentalized for me. I couldn't just do my job and ignore the less than ideal people I worked with/for. And therein lies the problem. Like I said, big ass corporation setting with big ass egotistical power-tripping fiends ready to pounce on the next poor novice on the rise? So not my scene. I'm a Pisces -- I'm stubborn, creative, oozing with drama. I wasn't born for such confined, strict situations. The stars say so, and I kind of believe them.

A good friend of mine actually did a recent post about her top five dream jobs, and I thought I haven't really done any Top 5's lately, so why not do one today. Creative writing, movies, traveling, and music are my greatest passions in life (I was going to include fashion, too, but I'd settle for just buying, wearing, and admiring them). And if I ended up with at least one of these jobs, It would just be...the most natural thing. Simple, and at the same time complicated, as that.

5. A Travel Channel correspondent, a roadie, an airline carrier marshal -- any gig that would pay me to travel and experience different things. That's just awesome right there. I remember watching this show on the Discovery Channel when I was little. I think it was called Travelers where three of the six mainstay hosts go to a particular city or country and just discover, admire, share, live the local life.

4. Food/Music/Movie Critic. People would actually listen to or read what I have to say about things and take it to heart. I've reviewed music, movies, and restaurants before, got significant compensation for my work (not to mention a full belly and a satisfied artistic mind), and to be able to do that for the rest of my life? Wow. Become a member of some kind of film board or motion picture association and be somehow involved in post-production, film festivals, and just watch movies all...day...long.

3. A Teacher. Whether it's creative writing or preschool, I think passing on knowledge is a sure-fire way to affect and help people. The classroom setting was always appealing to me. But to be a part of the students' lives year after year, wave after wave of classes...its the greatest honor in the world. So, give it up to all the teachers (yes, even the mean ones)!

2. Sponsored Volunteer. For any humanitarian or environmental effort. To go around the country and the world and help in any way that I can. Of course, I'll need resources to help me go from one place to another and EAT and buy deodorant and feminine products and stuff, but that's what the "sponsored" bit is all about. Just give me food, shelter, and some change for transportation expenses, and I am so off to save the world one animal, tree, person at a time.

1. Nomadic Troubadour. If there was such a job title. Kind of like an Alex Supertramp for musicians except "into the wild" for me would mean "on every street corner, stage, and theater." This is possibly the farthest thing from boring office work that I can think of. Farthest AND coolest. All the world's a stage indeed.

On Free Music, Pigtails, And Wannabes

LunaNina said three days ago ... and I thought ... ?

  1. Passport :: US & Canadian Visas. Damn those things. Damn them to hell!@#$% Well, not really. As long as they give it to me, then I'm a happy camper.
  2. Small world :: Everywhere is walking/swimming distance...as long as you got the time.
  3. Radio :: Free music for ALL!
  4. Marine :: Life. Whales, manatees, dolphins, fishies big and small -- love them. I also love sushi (I have barbaric tendencies, what can I say).
  5. Wall :: Wall = Barricade = Decepticon. Did I mention I have ADD tendencies, too?
  6. Wanna be :: Wasn't that a Spice Girls song once upon a time?
  7. Pigtails :: Yes, I sported them a lot back in the day. What, I have really thick hair!
  8. Hyphen :: Something I'll use in my name when I get married. (e.g. Fritz Aritha Dorado-Hawke, if/when I get married to Ethan)
  9. 9.99 :: If it had a dollar or peso sign at the beginning, I'd cough it up in exchange of really hot merchandise.
  10. Unrated :: Can sometimes be good.

10 Things I'd Buy If I Had A $1,000,000

Which is around 40M in our currency (oh, wow, I just felt a tingle). I was never good in math, so these figures aren't exactly on the, well, money, but just the same, I'd probably splurge on (in no particular order):

1. A house for my mom and my brother. Nothing posh; just "homey," you know? Some place like where we live now, but newer. 7M

2. My own house. With the bedrooms and the bathrooms and the garage and the backyard and the small pool and the kitchen. Ah, the kitchen... 10M

3. Open-dated first class plane tickets to the States, Canada, Ireland, and Croatia (that last one is a wild card). Plus pocket money. Traveling is probably the first thing I'm going to do anyway. 2M

4. New furniture and appliances for my house. That includes an adequate entertainment room with a decent wide-screen TV, all sorts of gaming consoles and gadgets, and the most comfy couch ever. 3M

5. DVDs, CDs, and books. It's not the time to be thrifty. 150K

6. A personal trainer. I've always wanted one of those. 100K

7. Wheels for the family. An Acura RDX SUV for my brother (1.2M), a Campanella White 2008 VW New Beetle for my mom (1M). And a 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class GL550 for moi (3M). Yeah, baby! (Sorry, Mother Earth, it IS just a dream. Of course, I'm getting a Lexus RX 400h, a Ford Escape Hybrid, and an Acura RSX if I had to go car shopping!)

8. Gifts for my closest friends and relatives. 2M

9. A quaint farm or vineyard for my Dad to maintain and relax in for the rest of his life. Whatever I have left, which is more or less 10M

10. And finally, a lottery ticket, you know, just for kicks. You'll never know... 20 Pesos

When 2 Become 1 Become 2

I haven't been around the past few days, all thanks to what I now call The Great Depression. I reached an extreme high when I found out my brother passed his board exams, with honors no less, only to realize a little later that I was plummeting with great speed into the deepest abyss of my sick, depressing mind.

Needless to say, the 12th of the month wasn't sweet and memorable as I'd hoped. And Valentine's was an utter disaster. AND the days that followed were pretty much suckfests I've never experienced before.

I fell off the face of the Earth, sure, but I'm glad to report that I am back from the undead -- thanks to a little movie therapy, Kenneth's very inviting and uber-comfortable couch (you ratted me out, didn't you, you son of a...), the constant nagging of my mom (which did me a lot of good in this case), and a funny (I think I also called it cute at one point) yet heart-warming email from the doctor. The world I lived in needed me alright. It's a good feeling. Thank God that awful time is over. It's good to be back.

Oh, right, Manic Monday. LOL Well, today's MM is all about the number 2. Incidentally, 2 is one of two of my favorite numbers. Ain't that funny. In honor of today's MM, here's Ryan Adams with, well, Two. Awesome song.

TMI Tuesday: Poetic Justice

Before anything else, I just want to give a shout out to Obie...

Someone once said that a man reserves his true and deepest love not for the woman in whose company he finds himself electrified and enkindled, but for the one whose company he may feel tenderly drowsy. I guess in a weird yet good way, this makes me the luckiest girl; not only do you love me because of the butterflies and all the other obvious reasons, but also because of the ease and comfort you get when you doze off next to me. Sure, I may feel sad and a little neglected when that happens (while watching Shrek. TWICE. Come on!@#%), but I'm still honored you picked ME. Happy 3rd Anniversary...

Now on to TMI Tuesday:
1. By what nickname(s) were you known as a child? There's Frizzy, which I still go by now. It has nothing to do with my hair, mind you. I guess my parents thought it definitely sounded more feminine than my real first name. Another childhood nickname was Joy. My grandfather (dad's dad) came up with it and it was only my dad's side of the family who called me that once upon a time. My dad's sisters still call me that sometimes. Why Joy? Well, since I was his only begotten son's first child, he considered me to be "the Joy of his life." He passed away when I was only in 2nd grade, but he was a sweet, simple man. He's always been missed.

2. Do you have a favorite poem and, if so, what is it? I love the classics -- Shakespeare, Whitman, the staples in poetry and prose. But I've also written a few. I actually had to go through my junk pile to find this one poem I wrote in March of 1996. I don't remember who it's for, but it goes a little something like this:

From opposite ends of the Earth we came
Trundling our bags,
Our treasures, our laughter,
Our hearts.

From opposite ends of the city we came
High and low, east and west,
Silent, cautious,
And unseen.

From opposite ends of a lifetime we came
Of old and new
And found a breath of magic
Hovering in between.

From opposite ends of a kiss we come
Left and right, upfront and behind
To hold each other tight
Beneath the starry sky.

From opposite ends of a heart we smile
Two lives blended into one
With no more opposites;

Simply together, laughing and young
The beautiful man that you are
And I.

3. What is your greatest regret in life? Giving another the chance to just...be. It's complicated, really.

4. You are tired and hungry, but it's too late to cook. If any snack food were available to you, what would you choose and why? Beef and chicken combo fajitas with sour cream, salsa, guacamole, and grated cheese on the side. Why? Because fajitas make me happy any time of the day, that's why!

5. What is the oldest item of clothing (not jewelry!) that you wear regularly and what do you love about it? These rainbow-colored boxers I'm wearing now, I guess. I've had this since freshman year in high school. That's pretty old, right? Haha I wear it around the house all the time. I absolutely love it because it's extremely comfortable, breezy, and even Obie wore it a few times.

Bonus: Name a movie or TV show that changed your thinking or behavior. Oh wow, toughest one yet. OK, some of these are not necessarily my favorite, but their impact on my life is just simply undeniable. Let's see..."movies" that changed me the most would have to be Orapronobis (opened my eyes to political and social cancers at such a young age) and An Inconvenient Truth. The TV show that changed me the most is a three-way tie between Sex And The City, Oprah, and Doctor Who. Strange mix, I know, but I have learned a lot from these shows, no doubt about that.

Heart Strings

Today's Manic Monday is all about the heart. Very exciting topic, I thought. A lot of things popped in my head straight away, but only one (or in this case -- duo) really stuck.

The Wilson Sisters totally got me hooked the first time I heard them. I think I was in 6th grade -- back when The New Kids On The Block tape was still getting a lot of play time on my boom box ("uh uh uh oh oh...the right stuff"). One day after school, I heard Alone playing on the radio and that was the beginning of my love affair with Heart. Their vocal range and stylings are just too much, which is always good in their case. Whenever I do Karaoke, I always have to sing at least one Heart song. I could never get enough of them, really.

To commemorate heart's day and two of the greatest female rockers that ever lived, here's a vid of Heart with their heart-wrenching single What About Love. Advanced Happy Valentine's, all!!!

On Parties, Betties, And Kevin Smith

LunaNina says ... and I think ... ?

  1. Score :: 81.75% -- my brother's score that put him in the top 9. This year's physical therapy board exam was SO hard that the top 1 examinee only scored 84.10%
  2. Luxurious :: Strawberries, chocolate fountains, chauffeur-driven cars, huge house, private jet, haute couture, Olympic-size pool, and a lifetime supply of low-fat low-sodium Spam.
  3. Party :: All week, baby!!!
  4. Limited edition :: Havaianas Swarovsky.
  5. Security :: Some people use blankets, others a favorite childhood toy. Mine is this pillow that I've had since the 7th grade (the first one had to be disposed due to health reasons).
  6. Betty :: Ugly Betty. I don't really watch it for America Ferrera's character. I'm more fond of Justin (Mark Indelicato), Amanda (Becki Newton), and Marc (Michael Urie) -- they crack me up every time.
  7. Under construction :: my head.
  8. Pest :: Leeches -- both figuratively and literally.
  9. Director :: Kevin Smith. Watching all his movies again.
  10. Express :: Mail. Despite convenient technology, yes, I still use snail mail.

My Bro Ranked 9th

Yesterday, I shared the great news about my brother passing the Physical Therapy board exams. This morning, we found out he was in the Top Ten!!! He ranked 9th, with only 2.35 points behind the top seed. Can you believe it?!

Oath taking will be held at the Manila Hotel on the 2nd of March. I'm actually speechless, but at the same time oozing with glee (and pride). It's been a good couple of days, I can say that much.

God is truly amazing. And my brother G-3 (yes, that's his name. We have weird ones, if you haven't noticed, and we have our parents to thank for that) is the awesomest therapist. Ever.

Proudest Sister In The World

My brother passed his board exams for Physical Therapy!!! Yay!!!

His friends and I were at this coffee fusion place from 10PM last night to like 4 in the morning. A vigil in his honor, if you will. He's still up in Baguio with his girlfriend, waiting for the results there before he comes home. The results were posted online at around 1AM. The next 15 minutes after that was like a blur. Jumping, phone calls to/from all over the world, shouting, drinking, more jumping -- it was exhilarating.

Waiting for the results to be posted online...

Screenshot's worth crap, but it's looking mighty good to me!!!

Busy on the phone...

Bring out the beers!!! Haha Toasting The Man...

Congrats again, brother. We'll see you soon. And when we do, we are going to party like rockstars!!!

10 Things You Can Do Aside From Watching TV

I must admit, I have been watching far too much TV lately that I'm actually starting to un-tan. I do have a life beyond the sly tube though. When I'm not glued to the television, I'm probably:

1. Glued to the computer. It's nice to give one appliance some love and attention while the other rests.

2. Spending money I don't have. Shopping and eating out are carefully encrypted in my DNA. Without them, I won't even be of this planet.

3. Out there somewhere. Contributing to the traffic and making more of a mess of this world, no doubt.

4. Hanging out with friends, family, and loved ones. Nothing beats the human connection.

5. Working. Yes, work, you know, the hard kind.

6. Reading and writing. I got my books, journal where I write all kinds of stuff in, more books. Oh, wow. I got tons. I should pick them up more, shouldn't I.

7. Playing sports. I do know a few, believe it or not. I was into volleyball, badminton, table and lawn tennis for a while. Now, I'm learning football (soccer) and ultimate Frisbee c/o Obie. Haven't really played, but I'm learning the ropes; that's a start.

8. Singing and playing my guitar. I've always lacked practice, but I manage.

9. Sleeping. Whenever I can. I've had many failed attempts, but naps are just as good.

10. Watching the world go by. Hey, the real good stuff happens right before your eyes.

  1. What women want :: Adoration, attention, passion, praises, time, r-e-s-p-e-c-t!
  2. Epidemic :: Dengue, the plague, bird flu.
  3. Taxes :: and death.
  4. Hello :: Why, hello to you, too!
  5. Confidential :: None of your business.
  6. Lights :: Camera. Action!
  7. Summation :: Conclusion.
  8. Hard feelings :: Bitter.
  9. Electric :: Youth -- Debbie Gibson. I think I still know some of the moves. LOL Sigh, blast from the past. She was awesome.
  10. Fresh start :: Now.
